Jobs & Economy
Creating Jobs and Strengthening Florida’s Economy:
With double digit unemployment and falling property values, the time for action is now. Bill McCollum has a comprehensive plan, “Real Solutions, New Jobs: A Roadmap to Florida’s Future”, that will create jobs and get Florida’s economy back on track. This Roadmap, developed in partnership with Steve Forbes, will create more than 500,000 new jobs in the next six years through its tax and regulatory proposals alone. The Roadmap includes specific plans to provide tax relief, regulatory reform, litigation reform, and property tax cuts, and to improve Florida’s education, transportation, water and energy infrastructure. Finally, Bill will work to lure biotech, high-tech, manufacturing and other job-rich businesses to our state. The Roadmap includes proposals to achieve:
- Significant tax relief to make Florida more competitive for attracting and retaining businesses.
- Property tax freeze and a cap on local government spending to ensure that governments do not raise taxes when times are most tough, and to ensure that governments never again grow faster than the wealth of their residents.
- Regulatory reform to reduce and eliminate red tape, and increase the efficiency of state government.
- Litigation reform to lower costs for small businesses and to reduce Florida’s doctor shortage.
- Greater access to venture capital and low interest lending to aid small and new businesses and to commercialize ideas coming out of our state universities.
- The development of regional clusters of innovation and trade to draw upon local strengths and create new jobs.
- Greater energy independence and diversification to provide Florida with affordable, renewable and safe energy sources for years to come.
- A transformed multimodal transportation system to improve the quality of life for Floridians, and to link Florida’s 14 deepwater seaports with efficient highway, rail, and air systems to ensure Florida is positioned to capture maximum trade and create maximum jobs after the expansion of the Panama Canal.
- A world-class education system for students of all ages to ensure career opportunities and a thriving workforce.
- Long-term water supply solutions to prevent Florida’s looming water shortage and to guarantee access to clean, abundant water for businesses and residents.
